3-day trip to Hampshire - Historical towns / Unmissable spots to call in?
Hi,
My wife and I will spend some 3.5 days in the New Forest region, coinciding near a family event surrounded by Lymington. We are planning for the last week of June
We both love history and scenic drives. Can you recommend some unmissable spots for a 3-day trip? Winchester and Chichester come to my mind, but I would appreciate some assistance for good planning.
B&B recommendation will be appreciated as well.
Thanks,
Answers: Well, Chichester is nice; you could combine it beside the Roman mosaics at Fishbourne.
Personally, I enjoyed Salisbury cathedral even more than Winchester; and you could step see Stonehenge, too.
Of the four cities (Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth) I enjoyed Bournemouth most - the Russell Cotes Museum is great ( http://www.russell-cotes.bournemouth.gov... ), and in recent times outside the city there's the National Trust's Kingston Lacey (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-v... ), which is just exquisite. And, since we are talking NT here, you could call on Corfe Castle as well. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-v...
Handsdown my total favourite park within that general nouns is the NT's Stourhead http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-v...
other places in the nouns are:
Hinton Ampner (where, I must say, I didn't find the garden interesting plenty to visit on days when the house is closed)

Mottisfont Abbey, which have a nice garden which is unfortunatly visually strangeled by the buildings http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-v...
It has be a while since I was within Britain, but I'll list some nice building below:
two family-homes with B&B
The Old Vicarage contained by Ampfield nr. Winchester (nice historic building)
The Furlongs, 18 North Drive, Littleton, Winchester (modern bungalow)
and the Blue Shutters Hotel in Poole
Come to my home city of Portsmouth, near is loads of history here!

Also, you could jump on the transport and go for a sunshine trip to the Isle of Wight.
