I am a Canadian living in England. I enjoy American relatives and I know when an American is pulling my leg.

thanks for the guffaw Yank!
If I didnt know that americans have no sense of humour, i would suspect a leg verbs. is this a joke? If you can't work out that we use Pounds instead of dollars afterwards are you sure you're headed for Birmingham UK and not Birmingham Alabama? American money is pretty worthless surrounded by the UK so everything will seem twice as expensive - hope you've get a good credit card. I am purely having vision of you Googling for British Dollars. lol!
Lol (a) British Dollars.

We use Pounds Stirling here.

lb1 = $2

Enjoy your trip =]
No.. we use salt. Fill your suitcases near salt if you craving to barter with any locals for bread or a mug of mead. Weird press ,,Pounds sterling , not dollars in UK. almost 2 dollars to lb1 , In English slang of years ago a dollar was used for the sum of five shillings , a quarter of a pound. Went into disuse near the decimalisation of UK currency.
We have pounds, not dollars.

I have my suspicions to begin beside but I now see you are a troll and a hugely boring one.
we use pounds or sterling here love...

1 USD= APROX 0.5 GBP
Ok , wel unfortunately your money is going to similar to totally...half cos us British are approaching sooooo way ahead...
Eg. If you bear $600 you will get resembling lb 300 ish...Have er...good fun contained by Birmingham ..and i think we use pounds here? We use pounds surrounded by the U.K. Its roughly 2 American dollars to 1 British pound.
we don't use dollars, very insulting. We use the Pound, and no, you cannot use the US Dollar here - why would we want to adopt them?
We use pounds in the UK. Its roughly 2 dollars to a British pound I somehow know your ancestral home was Birmingham region formerly I finished reading your question.
A dollar surrounded by England used to be a colloquial term for 5 shillings, which since conversion to decimal coinage have become 25 pence. On this basis in attendance would be 4 English dollars to the pound or 2 English dollars to one USA dollar.
By the way, Dudley Zoo isn't surrounded by Birmingham, it's in the West Midlands or the Black Country.
We English work contained by lbs and pence not $s. WHere have you be not to know that? I think $1 is worth almost 50p but it could be a lot lower given the monetary conditions in the US at the moment. English money is pence [p] and pounds [lb] - 100 p = lb1

The current exchange rate, and it vary a fraction hourly - gives these information:

$1 US = lb0.51p - [0.505854 to be exact]
or if you prefer...
$1.00 = $1.98 US [1.97693 to be exact]

You can find out at any time by going to

Hope this helps.
Do you stingy British Pounds??
Anyway,
1 USD = 0.5058 GBP
Probably because they don't use "dollars". :P

Try the pound sterling = lb

Pics of the coins :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Briti...
And
http://www.xe.com/ for the lastest exchange rates.

Though over the past three years of visit I've always calculated a clad average of $2=lb1.

And, no American money is not used within the UK.
