I'm an American that has always loved my ancestral home of England, how expensive/difficult is to move there?

Answers:
I lived in US for twelve years - I am a UK citizen. My wife is American. We now live in the UK.
Like all European countries there are hurdles to get over in order to live here. If you can get a work visa (you'll need to get a job offered, is easiest way) The cultures, depsite having the same language, are quite different.
Winston Churchill once said: "America and Britain are two countries seperated by a common language!" It is true as each culture uses language in a different way. Americans tend to be, in general, more literal whereas Brits 'hide' meaning and play with the language a bit more. Americans tend to look on the brighter side and can be a bit more generous in spirit I think, Brits are harder to get to know and due to the fact that there are 66 million together on this small rock, Brits tend to be more resrved in nature and more aware of the needs of others.and more territorial over property boundaries!
I like living here. It is great when you have to go to the hospital/doctors and not for one moment do you have to consider the costs..that is priceless. Some things are expensive..other things cheaper. Coming this way will be a shock as the $ is not worth a lot at this point in time and it is still sliding.
Remember this: If you really want to come here and live you WILL be able to work it out with a little persistance and creativity. Marriage (bona fide) is also an option. I wouldn't recommend faking it. Good luck!

I moved to England and lived there for about 3 1/2 years and it is expensive. It gets really expensive when you come back here though. You lose half of everything you try to transfer back into $$. Plus, you have to be there for 6 months before you can get a work visa, unless you get one before you go.
