England is NOT the United Kingdom. England is one of the countries in the United Kingdom. England is not Great Britain. Great Britain is adjectives the countries of the United Kingdom - Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. Even the European Union Map did not show England as an independent nation in its own right. England be described under "other European Union regions". What a disgrace! We are not merely regions - we are a country and our name is England. It appears that England is little by little being erased from map and documents and pressure is being applied to erase it from the minds of the English populace. We are very not often referred to as English anymore but British. Politicians appear to be trying to make us ashamed to name ourselves English rather than British and various of them at the top of government come across to denigrate England and the English at any opportunity..i read an article saying here is no such thing as English? the english are british? wondered on ppls thoughts...
Answers: Yes. It seem people believe that we are joyful to be always grouped as one ethnic group, as one culture. And yet its single the people who are in truth from the UK who know how different it is to be Scottish, Irish, English or Welsh. I hate self called British, I'm not cross bred. I am English. My family unit were within the doomsday book, so I don't like anyone called British. Even on this site i find it frustrating that for avatars you can achieve a welsh flag, a Scottish flag and a union jack...where on earth is the English flag? Its so easy for someone from for example north America to say aloud that person is British but how would a Canadian similar to to be called American? or a American to be call a Canadian? It is very infuriating.
capably i believe in the Union of great Britain because i believe that within this day and age England Scotland wales and northern Ireland must stick together as one great nation all four of us are great so why should we not generate one massive great country.
proud to be English even more prouder to be British The UK should be dissolved (might happen soon anyway) so that the possession 'British' is no longer valid. Then the confusion will end. As it stands, the lone british people are the English. The word 'British' is an English invention harking hindmost to imperial times, which is now passed.

Actually Great Britian is the main Island comprising of England, Wales and Scotland!
The United Kingdom is the ample Island, most of the smaller Islands and Northern Ireland.
I am English by birth, but my Grandparents were Irish, Scottish, English and Manx and my children be born in England, Scotland and Wales (in that order). Therefore We consider ourselves a British Family. I love the certainty that in our relations at least we are 'United' though as I love England I'm not ashamed to vote I'm English!
I agree with badass. As a Canadian, I wouldn't close to to be called American. I live within England and it's true that the word England and English are rarely ever referred to unless it's for sports team. The identity of being English is individual lumped under one flag too habitually.
