A cross-question something like US/UK price differences.?
From my knowlege the exchange rate from USD to the Pound Sterling is about half-ish... so ten US dollars is five pounds?
Imagine a hood in the combined states costs $20 dollars. But now your contained by the UK buying that same hat at indistinguishable store... (some chain store or something?)... is the hood 20 pounds or 10 pounds?
Thanks!
Answers: The exchange rate is about right, but unquestionable things over here in the UK are tax at a much higher rate than other countries - and also food is expensive right immediately too. Expect to pay greatly more for fuel than you do in the US, prices are around lb1 a litre for petrol, more for diesel, for example. Tobacco and alcohol are also heavily tax, and clothes are more expensive here than in the US. Generally speaking, within comparison with other EU countries, the UK is an expensive place to be - including villa and public transport - so your dollar will be stretched. But please, come on over anyhow - it's a lovely country!
It varies, but you should probably expect to pay cheque about like for things-- for example, big chains like IKEA and H&M that get the same merchandise surrounded by the UK and the US will charge you 20 pounds for the exact item you would pay 20 dollars for surrounded by the US. You are quite right roughly the half-ish conversion. BUT prices in the UK other seem to be more than you would surmise. So I would guess that the same $20 head covering would cost more like 12-15 pounds.
Hope it help.
Maybe 40 pounds. I'm in like boat as you. Leaving Thursday to England and hope I don't go broke or spend $20 for a beer! LOL. I googled currency converter everyday hoping our crap money go UP before my trip but yeah...going on for 1/2ish is what I'm looking at. I did $300 US converted to 136 GP...I couldn't bring myself to get GP currency in the past I went...too depressing! I guess I'll purely swipe my card and hope it goes through for a couple of days.
