Probably it will not be possible or at least tiresome to find a bus that starts in PV and finishes contained by Matamoros.
The most flexible itinerary is to go:
P. Vallarta =>Guadalajara 5 hours (405 pesos near ETN)
Guadalajara=>Monterrey 12 hours (699 pesos with ETN bus lines great service)
Monterrey=>Matamoros 5 hours (238 pesos w/Futura bus Lines, pinch any one)
TTL 1,342 pesos
Connections in Monterrey and Guadalajara are superb so you can do it on the fly no problem.
At 10.7 pesos per dollar that's a total of US$125, and adjectives the food you buy in the stations along the style, plus local taxis or city buses on any end. Between Guadalajara and Monterrey you can also embezzle Turistar Ejecutivo lines, better reclining chairs but not as nice in broad as ETN in my experience and one and the same price. Either way, it is worth the executive service if that will be a red-eye and you want some sleep. Otherwise, a bus procession like Estrella Blanca or Omnibus de Mexico regular price is 538 for GDL=>MTY segment instead of the 699, 161 pesos cheaper...
