Or is it easier by plane?
And if by plane does anyone know the nearst airpot to Agua Prietas, sonora mexico i havent be able to find one thankfulness.

Answers:    Sonora is the boondocks. You probably will enter mexico from s. arizona? Driving is fine and probably best, making sure that your vehicle is in top dimple shape. I cannot stress this more.
i am not sure how much driving in Mexico you will do but if it will be more than 1-2 days, research the lay of the come to rest, choosing overnight stay options. DO NOT PLAN ON DRIVING AT NIGHT!
In reality, plan your trip so that you arrive at a planned stop early adequate to enjoy the towns center. Rest, dine, explore, but stay surrounded by well lit areas at hours of darkness, and retire to your hotel room early, especially if you are traveling near loved ones...always reward attention to your surroundings and be safe! you can really enjoy a wonderful time if you use common sense. ( and adjectives travel sense in the states does not equal c. sense within Mexico.
Tucson is the right answer but check with your auto rental almost driving in Mexico. I believe you can drive 25 miles inward of Mexico. I assume you can get special insurance.
Ive rented surrounded by el paso and driven to Juarez without a problem. Mexican rentals are thoroughly expensive compared to US rentals. Agua Prieta is just across the border from southern Arizona. The nearest focal airport would be Tucson, but you woul dhave to rent a car within and you woul dnot be allowed to take a rental saloon into Mexico. From southern California it is not a bad drive. You could stop surrounded by Tombstone and/or Bisbee, Arizona on the way.

My #1 piece of warning would be to try to get farther into the country than Agua Prieta. Border towns are never hte best examples of any country. It is safer, prettier and friendlier farther south.

Ditto on the comment not to tolerate fear save you away. Much of Mexico is safer than much of American. Just use common sense and delight in your vacation.
i would lug a car because in that are no major airports that do into the city so you would repay alot more and because it is on the border i would take a coup¨¦ I would take a saloon to be safe.
I guess it would be eaiser and less expensive to drive your own motor. The closet commercial airports would be in Phoenix or Tucson and you would enjoy to rent a car to gain to Agua Prieta.

Pay no attention to the posters who try to spread fear roughly Mexico.Agua Prieta/Douglas is a great twin city and I'm sure you will enjoy your call in...Buen Viaje!!
If it is just you next I would take a plane. If you hold a family (lets speak husband/wife and 2 kids) it would be hard to settle on. Coming from me, i do not like staying on a plane. But I live surrounded by Virginia, so its longer. Hard question, but I would step with the plane.
Sorry I dont know nearly any airports.
