I am aware that a Citizen of the U.S. needs passports, but do Permanent Residents involve passports do? Like for example, a Resident of the U.S. travels to Mexico by Car, when coming back, will she/he call for to show some kind of Passport resembling a Citizen?
Also, is it necessary to show your passport when entering Mexico and after when coming back to the U.S.?
Finally, does the passport requirement to be a Mexican Passport, or a U.S. Passport?
Answers: If you are a permanent resident of the United States, you CANNOT hold a U.S. passport. Only U.S. citizens may have a U.S. passport. If Mexico is your home country, you are still a Mexican citizen, and you must use a MEXICAN passport to travel internationally. As a everlasting resident of the U.S. you had to own had a Mexican passport when you come to the U.S. Do you still have it or did it expire? If you do not hold a current Mexican passport, you need to step to the nearest Mexican consulate and apply for one. Now...You MUST have a passport to FLY to Mexico or any other country..does not event what country you are a citizen of...same for everyone. You do not need a passport to travel to and from Mexico by Land or SEA until after SUMMER 2008. See 1st website below and read the top partially of the page for the CURRENT info. So. for NOW, you may drive to and from the U.S. and Mexico without a passport, but surrounded by a few months this will change. You must hold your green card with you and it must not be expired. You should also enjoy another form of picture I.D. like a drivers license. See second website for inventory of Mexican consulates in the U.S.
