Driving at darkness within Mexico?
I've seen several associates on here, as well as someone who answered a cross-examine I posted, saying not to drive at hours of darkness in Mexico, even if it's a well-mannered road. Why do people vote not to drive at night?
Answers: Don't drive at hours of darkness on the two-lane roads. There is a lot of loose livestock and I enjoy yet to see a cow equipped next to tail lights. My tip for driving at night is - DON'T. On the toll roads (which are as angelic as or even better than those in the U.S. or Canada), you can drive at dark, but should be aware that some roads -- particularly the Orizaba-Villahermosa road, and the Mexico City-Acapulco road, enjoy been specified to have assaults at darkness.
Many guidebooks and travellers advise against driving at darkness. This is excellent advice. When driving the "libre" roads at dark you will likely encounter pedestrian traffic (people on the style to church, every night}, animals, slow moving traffic, road hazards and the occasional character who has fall asleep on the warm road or is simply only sitting there. Driving at dark, outside of a municipality, tourist area, or on a toll road is risky and dicey. There are some Mexicans who (perhaps to save fuel?) drive lacking lights; drunk driving is very adjectives at night.
Because nearby are people who similar to to rob drivers at night. Especially Americans because they suppose were filthy rich. Oh and it doesn't backing if you have blond spike and blue eyes. You really 'stand out'. Because "good" roads can become very bleak SUDDENLY. A beautiful 4 lane, flawless highway can end and become a 2 lane pot-hole packed obstacle course within the blink of an eye. It is difficult to see sections of bleak pavement, there are repeatedly no lines painted on the roads or along the edges, there are regularly VERY difficult to spot signs or no signs at all, andBIG black cows similar to to stand in the middle of the road within the middle of the nite! I am sure thee are some areas where you could build it through the nite ok, but unless you have driven that stretch within the daytime and know it well, it sure is risky to try to drive it at nite. I enjoy driven thousands of miles in Mexico...as own many folks I know...and nobody think it is wise to drive after darkened. Help is harder to find than in the states, esp. at nite and esp. if you do not speak Spanish all right. Much of Mexico is mountainous, and the fog in these areas is suden, tacky as sour creme...and there are NO shoulders to verbs over on. In mountainous regions, the roads are narrow, enjoy not one inch of shoulder, no guard rails, and drop offs that would startle the pants sour you if you could actually SEE them. In some parts of the country thee are great autopistas, contained by others thease are only for short spurts...so you must KNOW the road okay, or not drive it at nite. Just saw the other answers...i don't think robberies are a big problem, but i wouldn't want to be roken down at nite on a muddy highway...and yes there are pedestrians, bicycles, cars near no lights.
Have you considered taking the bus/ There are buses straight from the U.S., theyare luxurious, and cheap. Email me if i can be of any help.
because my uncle grove at darkness and its really scary theres individuals who can rob at night etc Just don't do it. Never mind the overwhelming contemporary of robberies, its not safe, too plentiful people walking on the side of the road, contained by the dark, drunk drivers, in that have be incidences of horses loose on the toll roads..

I'm mexican, living and answering from México.
I guess you should come to see to understand that.
I don't drive at hours of darkness in México, even beeing mexican. Sometimes I own to, but I tried to avoid that all the time.
There are several reason:
1.- The highways can be within bad conditions, even if you are driving surrounded by a good one, suddenly a huge crater can be surrounded by front! and it can cost your life. At time you can see farther (is it correct? more far?).
2.- In many highway ("free" highways, not toll) within are animals on the way: cows, horses, donkeys, drunk guys, and more stuffs. It can cost your enthusiasm too. I have a friend that have crashed 'cause a horse, and know many cases of accident like this, even mortal accident.
3.- The signals are very discouraging in frequent highways and roads. Although the parliament is improving the more substantial highways, in attendance are yet copious roads without any sign or next to bad signals: no splash painted in the floor, no ad of on coming curves or narrow bridges, or bumpers ahead or houses. It can cost your life span too.
4.- When you drive at night, specially within state highways or no the more importants, everybody is "suspiscius": the local police could stop you to check if you are not a drunk or a gangster. It happen to me often. Dependig on where on earth in México you are, it can be as protected as in USA, or markedly risky; the variation is 'cause state police corps are differents at respectively state, some are very upright (like in Aguascalientes) and some are completely corrupted (like in Oaxaca).
5.- Okay, the risk of beeing robbed is solid, again dependig on where contained by México you are. Usually, the target of crime are big transports moving merchandises, but the risk exist; although is not as big as the others I told you.
6.- There are many drunk guys driving surrounded by México's highways at darkness, specially in weekends. Many those in México drives, but few KNOW to drive (it is a true), surrounded by many states it is not required to elapse a driving test. In my esperience the worst drivers are contained by those states and in this writ: Oaxaca, Guerrero, Chiapas, Jalisco, Zacatecas, Michoacán, Veracruz. The best educated drivers I've see: Aguascalientes, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Nuevo León, Estado de México (not México city). I don't know well plenty others.
On the other hand, toll highway are the way to bring, no matter it is morning or night. The toll haighways are similar to the interstate highway in USA, but the "free" highway really su.ck, and your life is surrounded by danger.
Was it clear plenty?
The truth is, you probably would be safe to drive within Mexico at night. The probability of anything happening are pretty low.
But still, the question is, why would you want to? Even the toll roads are poorly lit and drivers regularly drive without headlights. Truck drivers commonly drive drunk or high as powerfully. Robbery isnt such a huge problem now as it used to be, but it's still a small risk on second class roads.
Then you own the police checkpoints to pass which are easier done surrounded by daylight hours, and finally sour the toll roads (and sometimes ON them), you have to negotiate the "Topes": They're speedbumps that are recurrently poorly marked and thorny to see in daylight, and implicit impossible to see at night. Hit one of them a 80Km/h and you'll know it.
Then you enjoy a whole assortment of culture, animals and junk on and beside the road explicitly hard to see as resourcefully.
Of course, not ALL roads in Mexico are similar to this, but enough are similar to this (Especially in Chiapas and Oaxaca) to be paid driving at night a physical pain contained by the neck. It's probably undamaging enough, but only just a real hassle.
It's purely like any other place, it might be unsafe because of the crime. And nil has ever happen to an American in Mexico within many oodles years. it's just plain insecure! many crooks trying to take an easy buck! powerfully bucks ja, ja , ja
