Do i involve a passport for a afternoon trip to los algodones, mexico?
Answers: Yes.
I presume you will be travelling by LAND. Passports are NOT needed for LAND travel to and from Mexico yet. That reqquirement have no set date to be implemented even so. You will need a gov't issued photo I.D. and certified birth warrant. See site below and read top half of page particularly to see the correct, current info. Everyone who said you need a passport is WRONG. Charlie is correct.
My boyfriend go to Algodones the day after the latest rules went into effect on Jan 31. He have a state certified, embossed copy of his birth certificate and his Arizona drivers license. They didn't similar to the fact that he didn't hold a passport and gave him a urge telling him to return with one but conceded that he was following the rules and have the necessary paperwork.
Still, a passport is never a bleak idea.
right immediately you now obligation your birth cert and govt. picture i.d. (like a state i.d. card or a driver's license); or a passport Yes.

Take a look at (Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry) :
