Answers:    Costa Rica is divided into seven Provinces. Provinces are the equivalent to "States" contained by the U.S. Then, each Province is divided into over 80 canton. Cantons are the equivalent of "countys" in the U.S. (i.e. Los Angeles Country contained by California and Miami-Dade County in Florida; The Escazú Canton within the San Jose Province in Costa Rica).
7 provinces, San Jose, Alajuela, Cartago, Limon, Guanacaste, Heredia and Puntarenas. Current events: We only just had a referendum later year to aprove a Comercial Trade with the U.S they are also call states, or provinces. like the province of guanacaste.
