I'm going to Costa Rica for the fourth time very soon, any suggestions for some unusual places, things to do?

I surf and have spent most of my previous trips within the Guanacasta region, alot in Playa Samara as my home plinth. But this time I want to do something a little different. Suggestions would be practical, thanks.

Answers:    The Nicaragua suggestion be good. Right subsequent to the Costa Rican border, you have two great destinations: Ometepe island surrounded by Lake Nicaragua (which is basically two volcanos united together) and the beach town of San Juan del Sur, beside numerous beaches to the south of it.
Check out Pavones.

It is a long drive, but I love it near... I cant wait to dance back.

The Pavones Riviera is where on earth I stayed last time... it be 90/night for 4 people (4 bed, A/C, Kitchen, close to grocery store)

You are looking for "things to do" well, surrounded by Pavones, you get some of the best surfing on the planet. but other afterwards that, there is not much to do. You can wade around contained by the river if it is not completely wild when you are at hand, and there is also a slab with a ping-pong table... but in that is not much else there.

I have a blast there, the surfing be awesome (although it was small for there) and I get some great rides. my next trip is not til unsettled summer '08, and I am counting down the days.

If you need any more info, message me.
Have you tried doing a side-trip to Nicaragua? It's individual 6 hours away by bus and has some magnificent regions, surfing, etc.

If you're looking to stay in CR, how give or take a few the Monteverde Cloud forest? There is tons to do there! I'm going within December.

I've been to CR seriously as well and it's sturdy to reccomend one place over another since personal preferences come into play. I would trust the travel book by Lonely Planet (Order online or go to Barnes and Nobles) titled "Costa Rica" since the writers own been to every single place within the country and they give appropriate commentary on the specific conditions for surfing, lodging and nightlife.
