Americans bank within Costa Rica?

I will be transferred by company to San Jose, Costa Rica in May. I do not want to approachable a Costa Rican bank information because of the devaluation of their currency against the U.S. Dollar. My U.S. bank doesn't own a branch in Costa Rica. Are nearby any U.S. banks near branches there?

If I use my current debit card or credit cards they charge 15-30% surcharges in that.

Answers:    We have two accounts open already in CR...at Banco Cuscatlan [.com]. There are plentiful banks over within Banco Nacional [whom we hear that CITI Bank is now affiliated with], Banco Central de Costa Rica [Costa Rica's Central Bank], Scotia Bank,Banco San Jose,Banco Cuscatlan & Banco Promerica are 'private banks'. You may want to do a search out online by typing in Costa Rica later narrowing down to banking availabilty here...lots of info is online that taught us invaluable information! You will call for a letter of insinuation from your current bank who very soon has you financial standings. Simply step to the bank you transact & request a Letter of insinuation from them, simply stating that you are in perfect financial standing with their ridge. Good luck~

Be aware that all the bank in CR ebb and flow according to whther one has difficulty opeing an description versus another opened one short any problem. Try not to get discourage in that are lot's of American, Canadians, British & Aussies there...it is done adjectives the tiem! Good Luck!
Scotia bank have branches. Right now the colon is doing pretty angelic against the dollar. It was around 515 colones to a dollar and now 496 colones. I purely came rear legs from Costa Rica. Didn't see any AMerican banks in attendance. There were plenty of Scotia bank which are Canadian though. I'd just hang on to the money in your dune and withdraw life-size sums from the atm. it cost $7 no matter what the amount.
