Im a white American traveling to South America soon?

I speak limited spanish, am planning to swot up more b4 my visit. I'm landing within Santiago, Chile. I'm uncertain of which coast, but I'm going to walk/ride up one of them. Here is my interview, What countries should a white---light speaking spanish gringo travel without much problem? I'm a unforced going character and enjoy no problem adjusting to another culture. I'm not the typical Gringo, but what should I expect? Also, what is the best funds for me to travel while going up the coast/coasts?

Answers:    First, a little bit of geography. Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia are on the west coast of South America. The East Coast is argentina and Brazil next to just a teenie weenie bit of Uruguay.
Chile should be no problem. Peru will depend on the time of your arrival. It is not that dodgy, but the main highway is the Pan-American Highway, so if anybody requirements to protest against the government, they tend to block the highway. It might slow down your progress, but nil more than that. Ecuador get more complicated due to unrest, although it is still doable. Colombia... all right, don't think around it. Chances are you'll end up contained by a FARC controlled area and as a hostage.
Traveling to Colombia is Cool the first Time I go! There is good transportation, food, music, and the museums are the best! Go to the Gold Museum! I've be there twice to Colombia and Mainly because I'm subdivision Colombian and I have abundantly of family!

Good luck!!
Go to Colombia

it have a bad rep for its history, but its undisruptive now.

If you want an incident of culture, romanticism, and just incredible fun and (just from experience they dont fĂȘte harder then they do within colombia)

go to:
Cartagena, Colombia
where on earth youre there you can explore the city who have a huge history with the spanish and pirates and ..simply go, and you can also run to the nearby carribean islands past its sell-by date the coast of cartagena
Medellin, Colombia
-amazing people, the best food, the best nightlife contained by south america, and the most beautiful girls on this planet
If you want to clear the most of your investment try to see the best that each country hast to submit. Don't take our word for it, in recent times ask the people from Chile: What is the best to see within Chile? and they will answer The South, Then in PerĂș Cuzco-Macchu Picchu, and so on.

No problem for a white american, Chile is a peace of cake, within Cuzco you'll find more tourists than local people. But I too agree that if you travel by bus, do it surrounded by day time, unless you're taking an expensive company that you'll find inexpensive.

You could start within southern Chile (Chiloe island) getting there within overnight bus (no problem) and then north to Santiago again, after skip some of the north of Chile (dessert) try going to La Paz, Bolivia, Lake Titicaca, then Peru Puno-Cuzco-Arequipa-Lima later a overnight bus to the north coast Mancora then Ecuador, consequently Colombia to the caribean. Going to the atlantic ocean could take too expensive due to the distance.
Go to Buenos Aires, Argentina in the east coast of sotuh america is a great city next to a lot of nigthlife!! Is a beatiful city, seriously of culture, very european most of the population are descendants of Europeans and the woman are the prettiest than can conjure. And the city is safety and cheap.Buenos Aires is to an hour and a partially of airplane of Santiago. http://www.bue.gov.ar/home/ (more info of Buenos Aires is in english). You are not going to hold problem with the lexis, the majority of the Argentines speak English.
In Argentina you can go to the patagonia is awfully pretty place has glaciers and especially pretty nature, if jump in winter nearby are many centers of ski, for more information in the region of tourism in Argentina shift to http://www.turismo.gov.ar/ (is in english)
Have a nice trip!
MSDC should probably school himself a little better on political situations contained by certain countries close to Colombia since obviously he doesn't know much more or less it. Colombia has become a deeply safe country since the president took organization. All major cities, including the income Bogota are safe, the wealth is deemed safer than Washington, DC and Baltimore. Colombia is also the lone country in south america beside coast on the pacific and the Caribbean. Touristy caribbean coastal areas include Cartagena, Santa Marta and the islands of San Andres & Providencia. Travel in rural areas is injudicious.

Traveling in south america, you should probably simply fly. Buses are fine, but I hear south american bus drivers drive pretty fast. In Peru, dont forget to call round Macchu Picchu. Don't listen to the nay sayers, do your own travel research. Enjoy.
I want to go Colombia and Venezuela too, but I am a short time scared.

I'm reading adjectives the answers, because I really need to know formerly taking my decisions.

By the approach, could some Latino-Americans answer these questions of mine too, please?

Stick to the capital or main ports of any S.American country and you'll be fine. You might be surprised to find out that you if truth be told do fit in (looks wise) minus the little Spanish.
Traveling via train or plane is the safest but if you do train get sure you realize that it can get pretty busy.
The best time to move around would be during the day.
HAPPY TRAVELS and if you hold the chance, try to create it up to my country..ECUADOR...Quito is nice but I love Guayaquil :)
