I don't think anyone would crow at you for trying to speak Spanish. Most people are respectful when it comes to that... But yeah, you should know it since you are going to a remote place.
Many family in Lima know English because they cram it at school and it's also a requirement when you wanna graduate from any university; but still, you should be prepared to find abundant who won't understand a word of what you are adage.
