Anyone who has be to both Northeast (or North) Brazil and Santa Marta, Colombia? Can you compare/contrast both? What are the differences/similarities of their people, women, crime, temper, etc.
Answers: I would choose Santa Marta. I like the beach better.
Santa Martha is Beatifull, EL PARQUE TAIRONA is Wonderful Have not been to Brazil, but Santa Marta, Colombia - as stated above- is a honourable choice. The city of Santa Marta itself is not the most beautiful, but surrounding it is amazing. You own Parque Tayrona, where you can walk through some deep jungle and find yourself surrounded by absolute delicate, tranquil beaches.
You also own a 15 minute bus ride to Taganga, a fisher village, where on earth time basically stops as you lay contained by a hammock and swim in the lighting waves. And the sunsets...ahhhh..
Santa Marta itself is lively and have much to do including the upper-scale El Rodedero where you can sit at a cafe and put away ceviches. Very good nightlife that you can find until the wee hours surrounded by the morning on weekends. Markets line the streets, meat on sticks, fun inhabitants.
choose the Colombian coast!
Brazil is cool but in the north you simply find dessert and poverty (favelas)
but Santa marta is a good choise, apt beaches within and the lost city with the learned and mistery KOGUI indians.
