Are Chileans the nerds of Latin America?

It seems that Chile is so bubble-like from the rest of Latin America. They do not bring out interesting Latin musicians. They mainly of late have scientists, economists and some popular poets. There really is nothing that Latino in the region of them.

Atleast from my visit near, I didn't feel similar to I was surrounded by just any Latin American country. Maybe I come in beside American goggles on and was expecting another newspaper of Mexico or Puerto Rico, but the country is very new. The people incredibly bookish and kept back. Any thoughts?

Answers:    Right.. I totally agree next to bebobobo..

Latin America is not Mexico. That would be like expecting the Germans to behave close to the Italians only because they're both surrounded by Europe.

People in the US confer about "Latin" food.. but they're if truth be told referring to Mexican food.

They do not eat 'tacos', 'fajitas' or 'enchiladas' contained by the other countries, they don't even know what those are.

That's the big mistake people within the US make.

You must own gone to Santiago in Chile.

I agree beside the previous opinions-
Why nerds? Did you think that bcoz is contained by Latin America pple would be dancing and singing surrounded by the streets?
Reading the opinion you enjoy from Chile, I really dont understand how you didnt put adjectives latinoamerican countries in "indistinguishable bag"
You would be surprised about the richness that latinoamerica have. I'm not talking more or less dollars ( of that we have really few) but roughly speaking culture ( sciences, music, painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, singers and obviously ancient civilizations as Mayas, Aztecas, Incas, Toltecas, for say some)
Our culture is not Mexico..but Mexico is the simply that pple from USA knows. Each country have its own characteristics...and what makes from Latin America what it is, is of late the diversity that it has.
If you basically look for interesting Musicians (never heard or Miriam Hernandez ?)...the mythical Peruvian Bolero (who was invented by Lucho Barrios, Alci Acosta...etc.) todos Chilenos...muchacho! The "nueva ola" chilena hindmost in the sixties and seventies, and... plus... Chile have quite plentifully of famous band from the past 40 years, which are upright know in EVERY Country of the Middle and South-american continent.Plus, muchacho, "Vina del mar" is since decades a "must" for musicians from adjectives over the world !

That was a moment ago for your opinion surrounded by Latin-Music. Latin Music is not just Salsa, Reggaeton and Merengue.!!
I completely agree beside the rest of the comments. Your opinion is greatly popular among US citizens, but it's far from truth.

"Latino" is not the same as mexican. Latinamerica is a terrifically diverse continent, and each country's culture is the product of hundreds of years of cultural exchanges between indigenous peoples, european colonizers and african slaves, among others. And because of that, respectively country has a really rich and diverse set of traditions (music, food, celebrations, etc), and provides a very huge range of experiences to those who look in them.

The problem with that latino stereotype is that it doesn't allow associates to see the complexity that relies within respectively country: most people can't see Mexico as an industrial or scientifically advanced nation, duplicate way you can't see Chile as a fun or expressive country. And that's the origin why you think they don't "bring out any interesting latin musicians": Occidental culture have a very strong partiality to forget what doesn't fit into those long-established stereotypes (that's why Shakira is only certain for her sexy dance songs, instead of her more lyric-complex ballads, to offer an example).

I invite you to look for more information about latinamerica, and to share your experiences next to other people, so those stereotypes can finally step aside and allow people to be more open-minded roughly speaking our culture.
well, the "American" delusion of LAtinamerica is Mexico.
For americans everything Latin is Mexico.
So, they get surprised when they stop by Chile and Uruguay, where culture are educated, where on earth they have snow, ski resorts and glaciers. And where on earth they don't eat tacos and sing mariachis songs!
