Like any major city, Bogota have its "downtown". There are big buildings, however not as big as you would find here in the U.S. I regard, if I'm not mistaking, that the tallest building it's still is the "Colpatria Bank" building, which is like 40-something stories. If you dance to Bogota, I would recommend going to "Monserrate". It's a big Mountain in Bogota, close to downtown. There is a train that go all the method up to the top where there's a superb church; now granted within are stairs, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you're very much into doing exercise. Once you're up near it's very elegant, you can see the entire city from there and adjectives the big buildings from downtown.
While in downtown, please keep hold of in mind that it's not resembling the rest of the city, there are some areas surrounded by which you may feel "unsafe", as long as you don't put yourself "out there" where on earth "bad" people can openly see you're a tourist, then you will be fine. In certainty there are nice places to run see in Downtown, including "El Museo del Oro" (Gold Museum), and Bolivar's Plaza. Bring a camera and bring lots of pictures!
Rest assured though, Colombia is not as bad as most race make it appear. Last time I went to Colombia be April 2006, I had not be there within over 10years since I moved to Florida. I went near my wife and children who are very "American-Looking" and nor I or them have any problems with Anybody whatsoever. In certainty, people be very nice to us and specially to my wife. She loved it and be wanting to go pay for!
