Can US aircraft Carriers fit through the Panama Canal? Links?



Answers:    The old WWII era carrier could go through the waterway. The bigger nuclear ones can not.

Some of the "helicopter assault ships" that look like aircraft carrier can probably still make it through but not the prime fleet carriers.

The max length of the strait locks is 965 ft and that is smaller quantity than many of the current carrier. The nimitz is 1092 ft long (our main nuclear carter class) and cant go through.

yes, but it's a darn tite squeeze yes they can travel thru except for the reagan class which has to stir around the tip of south america.
If they meet Panamax standards, yes. I've see pictures where some enjoy, but I'm not sure if the newer class can do so or not.

Panama is building another set of canals to toy with bigger ships.
