Maynooth is a lovely place you should consider moving there, or just round the corner Lucan, Celbridge, Leixlip, Palmerstown etc.
Maynooth is approximately 23/24 miles from Portmarnock. The fastest way to attain between the two may be by regular trains, one into Dublin (Connolly Station) and another to Maynooth. The Dart (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) from Portmarnock to Connolly Station Dublin, which runs more frequently than the regular train, is a 20min journey, the regular train take 11mins. A sample timetable for Monday morning 27th shows;
Leave Portmarnock on the 7.37 train, detain 8.00 train to Maynooth arrive at 8.22
Leave Portmarnock on the 7.49 Dart catch 8.40 train to Maynooth arrive at 9.16

The interconnect below is to the Irish Rail site timetables, type in Portmarnock at ‘From’ and Maynooth at ‘To’ and it will give somebody a lift the train/Dart change at Connolly station into vindication for timetables.
To get the exact distance log on to aaireland.ie and jump to route planning and you can get the distance.

Maynooth is a University town and it would be a bit of a nightmare to work in attendance and live in Portmarnock (I know my son is at college there). Without a motor you would have to win the dart into the city and then catch the suburban train out to Maynooth. It would make your morning very long. However, Portmarnock is lovely and right beside the deep-sea so if you think the hassle is worth it consequently its your choice.
