"Irish" spoken language??

When Irish people refer to "Irish" as a style, do they mean what I would send for Gaelic, or do they mean the "Father Ted dialect"?

Answers:    Gaelic certainly wouldn't be what us Irish would say. We any say Irish or Gaeilge.

= )
Irish is what the jargon is called surrounded by English, Gaeilge is what it is called contained by Irish, Gaelic for Irish people is a sport.

Hiberno-English is the adaptation of English that Irish people speak, as you said Fr. Ted dialect.

I saw Clara's post and I couldn't carry over her being told by Americans that in that is no such language as Irish, its call Gaelic. I was horrified, every child surrounded by Ireland is taught the prose and you'd think we'd know.
capably here in ireland we phone call our native dialogue Irish!! i think that is to say what you call gaelic but as we revise in school all across ireland it is call the irish language!! i be writing on this and some american told me that there is no verbal communication as irish but what the hell would they know!! i learn it every afternoon so i think i would know more almost my language than some american who probably can't speak a word themselves! Of course we penny-pinching Gaeilge (only foreigners call it gaelic). I can't believe you would regard the "Father Ted dialect" is actually a speech. Where are you from! It is not even a dialect, the guy who played Ted and is now unmoving was a Dub (Dubliner) and most of the accent are put on so it is just a skit. did you not realise that. I sometimes despair something like how little people know around Ireland.
When we refer to irish as a language we plan Gaeilge. The father ted dialect is just the nouns of our accent but it is still english.Gaeilge is its own speech,it is on our roadsigns, taught within our schools and spoken on tv (it is also spoken at home within specific areas of the country)Hope dat helped.Slan Leat(goodbye) Oh Tis Gaelic to be sure, but it'd really be call Gaeilge.

Cad a cheapann tú? - An bhfuil Gaeilge é?? Bí cuin! Ceart go leor. An bhfuil tu as do cinn?

Can u dream of going into an irish exam and instead of writing Gaelige you wrote a paper base on the "Father Ted Dialect" Lmao
They mean what you would call Gaelic. Actually its called Gaelge but the english translation is Irish. Say passageway what you would call French is Francais to the relations of france.

The father ted dialect is just a a scream irish accent.
No they be determined Gaelic, Irish English is another issue altogether Well, better they call it Gaelic than--shudder---Erse!
We plan Gaelic but the Irish form of it is called Gaeilge.

HAHAHA!That Father Ted practical joke really made me laugh!!
hahaha Sarah - sure yer a roiht eejit.

Noo - by Irish we do aim Gaeilge.
