I'm sure if you asked any British politician or British citizen if they would administer Northern Ireland back to the Irish, they would speak, in a heartbeat, "yes". They own no real interest contained by staying there and within my opinion, their reluctance to sign out is based on keeping the peace and nought more.
Having said that, 800 years is a very long time for a country to occupy another so political transformations clutch a bit of time. I suggest you take a look at any information on wikipedia beneath anglo-irish agreements. that should give you some thought. There are so many Loyalists (pro British) contained by Northern Ireland, in certainty they are the majority. Even if the politicians decided to restore home rule it would not work because within would be extreme civil unrest. The new reciprocal gvt they have in recent times established seems similar to it could work, though, and I think most Irish folks are pretty optimistic around it. I know I am.
The reason is that Britain colonised Ireland contained by the 1600s, and made it officially slice of the United Kingdom in 1801. Most Irish family didn't like this, so they spent the subsequent hundred years or so trying to gain independence. It finally happen in 1921, except that surrounded by exchange six counties in the north of the country have to remain part of the UK. These counties are set as Northern Ireland and are still part of the UK today. Some family (loyalists/unionists) want to keep it this path and others (nationalists/republicans) want NI to become part of the Republic. There really isn't much of a quarrel between Ireland and Britain at all, except for some Irish relations who are still upset at the way Irish populace were treated during the British occupation. What are you on there is no problem beside any one in Northern Ireland it is adjectives in the mind we are adjectives at peace no since the good Friday agreement there's no fued-they own left us alone...we become independent years ago :)
