Do i involve a passport from scotland to galway?

im traveling from edinburgh to Galway. ireland next month and my passport is old, i know u dont need a up to date passport for republic of ireland, so if i travel near and get the train down will i have need of a passport to enter southern ireland? Please please help.

Answers:    A valid Photo I.D will suffice for flights also (at smallest I know thats the case beside Ryanair ) You do not need a passport to travel between the U.K and Ireland. This is whats mentioned on ryanair.com

For British and Irish citizens who are travelling on flights to/from the United Kingdom to/from the Republic of Ireland, a valid driving licence next to photo is acceptable photo ID. Passengers who are citizens of other countries travelling on these routes must present a valid passport (with visa if applicable) or a National Identity Card issued by the rule of a European Economic Area (EEA) country

You could travel to The North (there is no border controls and the likes of customs etc. are a entry of the past) and then to Galway however if using the train you would hold to go from Belfast to Dublin after from Dublin to Galway, which seems approaching a lot of hassle, you could however grasp a bus from Belfast direct to Galway.

However, I would advise that you phone or check out anything airline you wish to use website as I'm sure a valid bureaucrat photo I.D will do. In regards to Ryanair check out

Contary to what culture may tell you you do NOT want a passport to travel from the U.K to Ireland and Free travel DOES still exist, its in the pipeline to wind up at 2009 but as for now you'll be fine.

Whatever track you decide to tavel enjoy a great time Galway its an absolutely great city near loads of great pubs :-)
The drivers licence must be one of the new ones (the ones that enjoy the photo on it)... I've never seen a border as such - we shop up contained by the north sometimes and just drive near without borders.

Hopefully someone will know how to give you a better answer - sounds approaching you don't drive.
You will need a valid up to date passport as free travel dosent exist between the UK and ireland very soon You do need a passport if you are flying. Sorry.
Hello,
If you are a UK citizen next you need some species of photo id. A driving licence is right (I regularly travel to the UK from the Republic on a driving Licence.)
If you are from any other country then you do have need of a full passport.

If you are flying then yes, you'll requirement a passport. If you take the take over though I'm pretty sure you just obligation some photo ID.
