Answers: I was amazed to stumble across your interrogate... My grandfather is a Harrington and we just have a big family reunion contained by Castletownbere, near Allihies this weekend. My grandfathers parents are from Allihies... Harrington is a popular label in that nouns but i would love to help if i can. I can dispense you more specific information if you would like to e-mail me near more details... osullivan_g(a)yahoo.ie. Hope to hear from you soon :)
Harrington ... you are probably aware that this is not originally an Irish name, it is within fact English, and most expected came over next to Oliver Cromwell. There are lots of Harringtons in the South West contained by general. Did you write to the local churches? The nearest town is Castletownbere, try to find out the different denominations that be there and write to the parish priest or vicar, in that may still be church records available.
Good luck.
Below are a couple of sites for market research records and genealogy links for Cork. Note contained by the first site 'Census Online' under - Guy's Postal Directory 1914 list for the name Harrington as a Hotelier, Shopkeepers and a Landowner within Allhies. Good luck with your dig out! try genes reunited and ask on there, or jump to genuki and search on the fragment that is for ireland, it should offer you some links to write to or investigate. however, i know from my own ancestors that searching within ireland is notoriously rugged as there is no internal place. your best bet is to do what you say you've done and afterwards take a holiday over here in that nouns and get conversation to the town hall (or equivilant)
Have you tried asking a Search Engine (Google, Yahoo, etc) for "Genealogy - Eire"
I've only asked that and there be several sites.
Happy hunting. VA
There was a huge fire surrounded by 1922 that destroyed vast amounts of the history held at the public record organization in Dublin. Alas, this routine that if you have Irish ancestors consequently life is made exceptionally difficult for you indeed. If it's not on the internet, it's very imagined it was destroyed within the flames and there is vastly little you can do about it I'm afraid. A lot of culture are in matching boat, but alas, things like this do come into play sooner or next when you start getting further back contained by time. The World War I service papers that were on the reception end of a Nazi bomb during the Blitz are another devout case within point. Not everything survived sadly, and Ireland suffered worst than most I'm afraid... contact the local treatise, i did this, and i had a bit of luck
