Tell me anything about Calcutta, apparantly its awfully cultured, yet still is poor, what is its financial situation like? Does it hold a drug problem like so abundant other cities in the world?

Very poor city and monetary situation is not good.
Not sure roughly drug problems but the Crime is at high.

I own been here for 5 years. That is the best city where every expat feel safe and close to at home. All local people are friendly. Living is the cheapest within India. It is india largest city.
Cultures is every where.. Indian culture can be particular from the state but not in the city. The city is influenced my western culture... not anymore difference.
Modern style of living, you should call round central kolkata to explore that. Things to see and places to look in are of n number, it will take a month to shutting down up seeing everything.
Not much crime and drugs. Only one crime happens is mostly within few areas, in buses and trains.. The pickpocketers... they will steal your purse or wallet and snatch gold ingots chains. Nowadays it is very exceptional, but there are a few groups still exists.
Night saunter is safe till 2 am. Later than that, it is not risk-free if you are unlucky and safe if you own your own cab.
Overall, it is a city of bliss.

Education - Kolkata schooling is best in India. The problem is Kolkata institution can not coach Professionalism. They teach proposal.
Wealth - Mostly middle class. 10% are very get. World's 3rd richest person LN Mittal is from Kolkata.
Safety - Most secure place in India. Least no. of rapes and molestations. Maximum even of criminal act is snatching of gold ingots chains. Be careful if you are sitting beside glass in trains.
Drug - Almost nil. Very few folks are addicted - mainly from 10% of those rich general public.
Culture - One of the most cultural place in India, All most adjectives the culture related works in India is head by people from Kolkata.
