Answers: There are plentiful types of tieing dhotis. In each region, respectively State and each caste they tie it differently. I am trying to find out how to tie it and incorporate to this. But I know South Indian Brahmins, how they wear as i do them.
The general method is -
How to wear a dhoti:
1. The dhoti is one long piece of cloth. Start by folding it within half so that it is partly its original length.
2. Drape the dhoti trailing you. The stripe should be vertical and held at the top by the left foot. The top of the folded side should be in your right appendage and the dhoti should drape almost to the ground behind your heels.
3. Bring together surrounded by front of you the folded side in your right appendage to meet the stripe side contained by your left appendage.
4. Hold both the folded and stripe side in your vanished hand and bring them at even rigidity directly to your left side, keeping the bottom of the dhoti rank and near the ground.
5. Hold the stripe side within your left appendage as you accordion fold the fold side with your right mitt until it is even horizontally with your disappeared leg.
6. There should now be a folded bunch surrounded by your right hand. Slightly elevate this bunch in your right appendage as you bring the stripe side over it to your right side. The dhoti is now wrapped around you. What is vanished is adjusting the tightness and rolling it down to hold the stiffness in place.
7. Take the bunch contained by your right hand verbs it slightly together and to the left and slip the top side of the dhoti of late over the bunch to hold it in place.
8. Even up the stripe side so that the stripe is vertical and the dhoti drapes horizontal just above the floor.
9. Roll the top of the dhoti down to a comfortable waist horizontal, somewhere below the belly button.
Tips for comfort and convenience:
* Dhotis do not have pockets, but they do hold a roll at the waistline. It is possible to carry small items such as key, cash, and some IDs by placing them surrounded by the roll. With some practice your items will be secure and slickly accessible.
* Be careful going up steps. It is assured to step on the dhoti, especially the left side (which is accordion folded). Lifting the bunched accordion fold highly developed before rolling help alleviate this problem.
* Silk dhotis do stay on. I was surprised because I thought their slipperiness would sort them slip right off. I've dance the night away surrounded by a silk dhoti with no problem.
* You do not want to wear undergarments with your dhoti, but be aware the material is thin, especially contained by the back. Wearing your white dhoti surrounded by the rain might be more interesting than you anticipated.
* Wind can blow depart dhotis and when you sit down the dhoti may come slightly apart. The more you overlap the fabric surrounded by the middle the less of a problem this is.
* When you instruct a dhoti you will probably have to trim rotten the end. If at hand is a seemingly useless strip of cloth attached by threads to either call a halt of your dhoti cut it off. This is basically to keep the dhoti from fraying until it is sold.
* Dhotis do stop fraying essentially. They do not just come apart after some time.
* Dhotis are traditionally worn tremendously near the ground, almost touching. If you plan on dance in your dhoti, wrap it a bit higher to keep hold of it from being stepped on.
* Fold the dhoti within half since drying it and make sure the stripes rank up. When you take it out of the dryer it should still be folded within half near the stipes lined up. This is far-reaching for making sure the dhoti stays together well when it is wrapped.-
Take the dhoti within the center and hold it at both ends while it is behind your waist. Take the right portion and place it on the tolerate hip and overlap it by the left foot portion as it goes to right. Put a roll or side it down the tummy. The portion that have gone beneath be put across legs and width clever take partially a span length and start rolling one over the other the whole span. Tug in the portion on the stern. The front portion be done similarly along the balance length and tugged at center. Dhoti is worn and you are primed. Start wearing! www.incredibleindia.org
