no, it be built by shah jahan, a mogul (muslim) leader, for his wife who died during childbirth. it be never a hindu temple, and there is still a mosque on the site to be precise used, it is the building one the left side of the taj (when looking at the front). within is an identical building on the other side but it can't be used as a mosque because it face the wrong way.
