In more rapidly days...people's titles or surnames used to be set according to their status...like zamindars and rich landholders have their titles as Chowdhury or Majumdar etc..
Sometimes it can be. My mother-in-law's last christen was Punegar. It be because her family be from Pune. But other people own names approaching moneymaker. I think it depends on where on earth your family lived hundreds of years ago and what their culture be at that time. for some, only contained by rural areas...

Not necessarily. It vary from place to place. In Tamilnadu, there is no such point as first name, sur mark or last autograph. Each person have a name next to an initial of the name of the father. perchance but im a indian and my last given name isnt a name of a city surrounded by india.
