What clothing should I pack for a month long leave to india from mid april to mid may?
On the way I will also be stopping contained by new york for in the order of 3 to 4 days. I will be going to delhi , agra, and mathura for about 4 days. Then i will be surrounded by chennai for about 12 days. And I will be within Bangalore for 5 days. And I will also be going to kodaikanal for about 5 days to pop in a holy place but will be staying in a regular 4 start hotel. If you could chronicle out the clothing to take that would be great. I am a 26 year older female and am going near husband and I am of indian origin but brought up surrounded by the states. I will be visitng my in-laws in chennai also. Is it appropriate to wear 3-4 length skirts surrounded by delhi and chennai?
Answers: the places you are visiting inn India would be slightly hot during mid-April to mid-May. You should wear cool clothes- preferebly in cotton and frothy coloured. Skirts will be O.K but not in substantial fabric.
Avoid to wear revealing clothes especially at religious places.
while visiting ur inlaws, be sure to wear something indian, perchance a salwar suit if not a sari. if they're not too conservative, a long skirt beside a good top will do. it's really hot here surrounded by may so pack suitable fabrics approaching cotton etc. i wouldn't really recommend too short skirts coz all they'll do is attract eyes of eveteasers which is the most adjectives thing surrounded by india. Jeans are fine, but when it's hot, you'll wish you be in a nice cotton salwar or churidar!
People do wear skirts, even minis .. but the broad population will view this as any "loose", or "cheap" or "western" or "English" or "Christian". If your in-laws are Hindu then wearing a midi skirt is not exactly going to endear you to them. I'd recommend you pick up two or three salwar sets surrounded by Delhi .. you can get nice stuff from a place call Fab India or Shoppers Stop or Westside (I'm not sure if they have branches within Delhi but I know these shops in Bangalore own nice "mix and match" stuff where you can pick out nice cottons, handloom etc. )
If you want to wear skirts, you could jump for the wonderful "gypsy" type skirts that are easily available .. remarkably hippy .. ankle length or a little short of it.
Wearing pant is fine. Loads of girls wandering around in jeans and t-shirts. Also check out "kurti's" .. these are short kurtas .. similar to the salwar khamis top partially ie the khamis .. but they are short and end at the hips and you can wear them near pants.
In Delhi and up north, I mull over covering up is a good opinion unless your skin is strong as armour, cos there is a LOT of sexual irritation and leching there.
April May is the HOT season so merely take lighting clothes. Lacy synthetic underwear will be a nightmare so bring cottons. a lot of NRIs tend to do their underwear shopping here, by the track .. Jockeys, Triumph, Lovable all available at the malls, upright quality and much cheaper than in a foreign country. Underwire bras feel gross surrounded by Indian summers but you get really nice cotton ones. A brand call Enamor has really nice comfy and pretty pastel ones, underneath 300 Rs.
Take one warm jacket for Kodai (like something you'd wear contained by early spring contained by the US .. no need for the fatty winter jackets) in luggage it's cold at night.
Pick up some nice cooling prickly grill powder after you come (or bring it with you if you like) . Something beside sandalwood will feel suitable, or else Johnson & Johnson's Baby Prickly Heat powder. Also be sure to bring mosquito repellent .. you grasp nice liquid ones within the US that don't smell at all resembling insect repellents .. they come in pump spray bottles and they contain DEET. You might also want to bring some foot sanitiser (the gel stuff that you can clean your hand with when there's no hose down, or for when someone wipes their snout or coughs just until that time reaching out to shake your hand .. !)
Although both these are available surrounded by India at pharmacies and supermarkets. The brand Himalaya Herbals is good for mitt sanitisers and will be available at all Health & Glow pharmacies as in good health as other outlets.
Chennai will be REALLY humid so you'll want LOOSE clothes for there. T-shirts next to a lot of lycra/spandex will be aware of like hell.
If comfort is the major thing, after go for formless cotton pants next to kurtis, or else ethnic handloom type kurtas next to ready made cotton salwars or churidars (those are the non-baggies near lots of folds around the ankles). they're just the easiest things to move around contained by comfortably.
sorry I'm jumping adjectives over the place .. but anyway .. hope some of this is useful for you! Good luck and own fun. It'll be a blast.
Don't bring too many clothes .. adequate for a week at the most. Then come here and SHOP. You'll love the shopping here.
april-may is summer here, so only colorful cottons/jeans is suitable.
to impress in-laws salwar suits / churidar suits should bowl them over.
for special puja occasion with in-laws a sari / or ankle length skirt would be appropriate
otherwise jeans/ draw string pants/ track pant with a top and a stole ( can double up to cover skin - purely in armour ) is perfect.
3/4 ths are fine when alone beside hubby dear otherwise a strict no-no to show legs.
everything will be fine so just be yourself.
Climate will be hot and dry contained by Delhi, Agra and Mathura. Summer temperature of Delhi, Agra and Mathura would be range from 40 to 45 degree C. Temp within Chennai would be 36 to 40 degree C near a high humidity. In Bangalore temp will be around 32 to 36 point C.
You can wear mini or macro mini skirts in Delhi and Chennai if you are comfortable beside them. Before leaving:

Hi, mid April to mid may would be summer time ... So no call for to worry going on for cloths... As I know you can wear anything you want in Delhi, Chennai, Banglore... . for a moment care requirement in agra, mathura, kodaikanal.
Enjoyyy :)
kodaikanal will be cold and you may want sweaters. Better you may wear a salwar-kamiz while meeting your contained by laws. skirts are frowned upon within India. www.incredibleindia.org
Well when you are visiting your within laws, wearing a western skirt is the end thing you should wear. Something more 'indian' would work next to them. I don't live in India but from what I know roughly speaking old populace there, they don't really appreciate too much skin exposure. Also I muse its summer time during April and may so you would want to be prepared for that. When you are visiting a holy place try to wear something smaller amount revealing, people tend to stare at you if u do. Other than that, i'm sure you'll hold a good time within India : ) If your in law are typical Indian kind, preferably wear a Salwar if you find wearing Saree is difficult to adopt as custom dress of South, If you wear Saree you will be praised and become a very humble, respectful person undemanding to earn a very worthy name.
Otherwise adjectives the places you are calling are warmer and hotter and possible to wear cotton fabric of your choice of design be it skirts, trousers, etc, etc*
