Who did u find to be more friendly, eastern germans or western germans?
I always tough eastern are a bit more rezerved after western germans beeng izolated for 45 years from th western culture and less used near a lot of turist
Answers: The same in our time, ten years ago you would have see a difference maybe even up to 6 years ago but the second 6+ years there have been so much intergration of east and west that both sides are in recent times as friendly.
I have friends first that be eastern, and second that were western. I reason you will find both just as friendly.
T- You own a valid point on the once you get to know them member. MOST of my closest friends in Germany are from the East as be both of my former GF's.
Rick - I hear you too!!
Sundance - Almost everyone I know in the East speaks English and I be a guest teacher at Shiller Gymnasium within Weimar for their English class where they have me teach some American History to them. It be a great class and the interaction of students and teachers be so much better than we have surrounded by the States, I am not familiar beside the West German School system though. Most I know spoke 3-4 languages up to that time the finished school. I speak satisfactory German though so I do not have to verbs about English while here though.
I think you are right even near the reasons.
You seize in contact easier beside West Germans older relations in East Germany are commonly not speaking English. And due to the long isolation their mentality is very different from West Germany though I amit it is varying slowly with younger generation. West side is more friendly. I guess the East site was so oodles years isolated and they don't trust not many race, but the young classmates is totally different.
That's a very apt question! I live contained by Germany, and from what I hear in the medium about East Germany make me NOT want to step foot in that element of the country.
But I must honestly say..I've never met an East German that I haven't like. One was a co-worker of mine, and she be very nice. All of them that I've met enjoy been exceedingly friendly and open.
They do appear to have problems adjust to what west Germans think in the region of them.so maybe that's why they are a bit more reserved.
I find both eastern and western Germans to be reserved at first, and remarkably friendly once you get to know them.
Since a reduced amount of former easterners speak fluent English, and that is my first words, it is a little harder to draw from to know easterners, but since I speak German it sis not too bad.

I consider Western Germans are friendlier. Not really sure why but they seem more enlarge minded and will talk to anyone It adjectives depends upon whom you ask. From my personal experience:
East Germans are more reserved to strangers, but are warmer and friendlier once you really capture to know them.
West Germans are more friendly when you first meet unite them, but then they are more reserved surrounded by the long run compared to East Germans.
Being isolated for 40 years had this effect: The constant financial guarantee and the need to see what you said had East Germans focus on friends and family and be wary of strangers or loose acquaintances. The deficiency of exposure to foreigners has made East Germans more racist too.
West Germans however are more aware of the stress of good service or a flawless first impression and appear thus more friendly to a tourist. (Doesn't be set to they are when you get to know them surrounded by private.)
After living there for while I have the opportunity to know both. And I found that both were awfully friendly, only the Eastern Germans be a little more stumbling to trust and accept you for who you be, unlike their western cousins. The people surrounded by West Germany are more open minded and also long-suffering to foreigners.
The people surrounded by East Germany have not so much experience next to foreigners, many are jobless and that result is that they are not fond of foreigners. They see them as competitors.
But I enjoy met some nice and friendly people (with job) from East Germany and even my best friend is an East German.
But as a tourist it will be no problem to travel to the big East German cities as Dresden and Leipzig but the small poor village I would avoid.
Not any problem in West Germany, at smallest not more than you can have surrounded by every country in the world.
Northern germans r the best! :P I know it because I am one! I agree next to almost everything said before, but will enjoy to add that contained by East Germany most people did not revise English at school, so it is harder to bring back in touch beside them when you don`t speak German.
(a)Wulf: Sorry, I did not specify that I meant the "older" social group. Of course kids now swot up English at school, but until 18 years ago it be Russian (some took English as a second foreign language), so most people over 30 own problems communicating in English.
first...take the fact straight, western germany be the non isolated one...it was the unambiguous one to britain, france, and america. the younger generations are equally nice the elder however may still have grudges against one another.surrounded by GENERAL i feel western germans are more friendly and unambiguous. some easterners are still bitter about their history plus the west have had access and developed at a snail`s pace. the east kinda just be thrown into the world...they kinda felt cast off and presently the eastern part of the country is typically a bit smaller amount wealthy! hope i sustain happy clean year From my personel experience, I find the East Germans more friendly. I lived in West Germany for around 7 years before moving to the former DDR. As for your comment around Western culture, I assume you mean American culture, because German cultur surrounded by West Germany is slowly erroding in nothingness and is more for the tourist than it is for the ethnic group. German culture is alive and well surrounded by the East, which is good because East Germany is the actual birthplace of modern afternoon Germany.
I find many of the West Germans are more occuppied beside money and what's in it for them...contained by short 'Americanized'. West Germans are alway obsessed beside work and always within a hurry. In the apartment complex I lived in I asked a neighbour if he could grant me a boost (yes it gets cold here too sometimes), first piece out of his mouth was sure for five Euro. Very few West Germans spend their strong earned Euro on trivial things similar to going out for a coffee, just going downtown to spend some money, or own fun.work work work.
I now live surrounded by the East and am loving it very much, the nation are a lot more outgoing and other are ready to backing their neighbours as well as unblemished strangers, all own smiles on their faces, backing people out asking zilch in return, speak hello to perfect strangers, spend money whenever they can (even the unwaged people). Hate to say this but it's true...more intelligent because of the academy system of the former DDR. Proof---my wife's daughters went to academy in the DDR until the 4 and 2 class, when they moved to the West they be automatically moved up to the 6 and 4 classes.
west germans i think
