A Berlin quiz?

Do many ancestors in Berlin speak English? If I be in motion into a store will I be able to speak English next to people or no?

Also, how do you pronounce the word Ich? I know it can enjoy an sh or k sound, but is nearby a way contained by which it is mostly pronounced in Germany, more importantly Berlin?

Answers:    With anybody around the age of 40 or younger, they usually speak English ok. As long as you start out other with something approaching "excuse me, do you speak English" and don't just clutch it for granted, you should be fine.

About the ich: I know they tell you the nouns is a bit like a k but believe me, it's not at adjectives. The advice more or less Loch Ness could help. Also, try this interconnect and just click on the loudspeaker to listen. I chose the word "sicherlich" for you because it's get the same nouns twice. Yes, it's a machine voice, but still, the nouns is ok.

Hello,

I am living in Germany, from UK, and I hold been to erlin. You will own no problems in finding someone to speak English. Many times they are too panicky to speak it thats all. I usually only ask them and if they say no, ask if they figure out English.

My Germany is better now though and from my experience if you speak to them contained by German they will answer in English anyway!

The intact 'ich`pronounciation is different in Germany - some pronounce it complicated - where I live - its promounced softly - similar to 'ish'.

Have fun and don't worry - near are so many 'auslanders' surrounded by Berlin, you will be fine!!

Berlin is great
yes, most people here speak english
and if you voice "ick", then that's simply fine,
'cause that's our "slang" ... ;-)
Many Germans speak good English. You can other find someone who does - if in doubt ask a teenager/person surrounded by their early twenties - nearly adjectives young population are quite fluent.

As regard the letters "ch" this is concrete for an English person to pronounce - reason of the "Loch Ness" - it is pronounced like the ch contained by Loch - like "ik" but much softer
Yes they do! I am from Berlin myself and yes they do, and pretty much everybody speaks at most minuscule a little bit english! Just speak slow and do handgestures and you will be without blemish fine :)
But also try to pick up some german phrases like "Guten Tag" (hello when you bearing in a store) or "Auf Wiedersehen" (good bye)
Anyways, HAVE FUN!!
While most Germans surrounded by tourist areas speak English very capably, in Berlin within are fewer, especially within the former east - because under the soviet rule the second argot was usually Russian!. That said, within store, restaurants, and the like, here are usually people who speak English. It is kind to learn for a time german, to help things fit along - but it's other possible to make your path around even if you don't know the language (no one know all language!)

On Ich, the truth is it varies across Germany. A couple of years ago I took two months to revise German in an intensive means of access at the Goethe Institut, and I studied in Berlin and Bonn. It be interesting how that sound change (also the -ig ending) across the country.

The Loch example is OK, but I think the h that begin the word "huge" is closer to how they speak in Berlin. Berlin's "ch" is much softer than western Germany. In Bonn, the Loch pronunciation is more prevalent.

It does not situation - actually, if you are trying, they will take to mean.

Gute Reise im Deutschland!
You can get by beside just English surrounded by Berlin, but knowing some German would definately help! Not adjectives Germans are willing to speak English, though most have at least a couple years within school. If you stumble over a few German words, most will afterwards help out beside English.
In the Berlin dialect, "ich" is pronounced more like "ik". The more you drink, the more it will become a long drawn-out "ishhhhhhhhhh".
