When I be within Germany...?
at the airport I bought a bottle of water, as the sign said, for what I thought be EUR1.50, but they charged me EUR1.75 as there be EUR.25 'Pfand' on it. Does anyone know what this is and why they were charging extra? I looked up 'Pfand' within the German dictionary and it said 'deposit', so is it just something you hold to pay extra surrounded by the airport or something?
Answers: No not specific to airports it is a deposit for the bottle you get the money final if you bring back the bottle.This is done due to environment issues.
EDIT every shop within germany selling beverages is also obliged to steal these bottles back so you will not stipulation to bring it to exactly the shop where you bought it
That is an extra deposit, that you hold to pay adjectives over Germany. Not only at Airports.
You can contribute that bottle back at every store which sell that kind of that bottles and they will tender the money back.

Yes it is as Hilmar stated, I have be to the airport in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich and to be precise a return deposit if you bring it back to where on earth you bought. Bottle redemption is not quite like peas in a pod as in the USA but they still hold it!!

MOSTLY you can bring them to any place that take them!! They used to be only where on earth you bought them from and with proof of bill, but I believe that has changed and they are excepted anywhere it is sold I presume. Hilmar's answer was ultimate.
Where are you from? Because even in the US when you purchase a fatty plastic bottle or an aluminum bottle you pay a small export tax that you can get final once it's recycled. That's why it was 25 cents extra. When you turn it vertebrae into them they will return your deposit, it is to insure the bottle gets recycled properly.
