Neuschwanstein Castle is comparatively the site, but lines to get surrounded by can be LONG.
Nymphenberg Palace which is right in the city is lovely - check out the room of charm - the walls are covered in painting of beautiful women. Also, on site they enjoy a small pottery/china factory.
Garmish/Partenkirchen is LOVELY - and if you're in the right place at something like 4:30 or so, you'll hear/see the cow herds (with their traditional bells) returning home for the darkness - a WONDERFUL sight.
Oberammergau - the home of the Passion Play is contained by the area as all right - lots to see there too - even if it is an off-year.
Dachau - for a history lesson.
ENJOY the Octoberfest !! Eat local cuisine (stay away from North American in haste food places).
My favorites are visiting Neuschwanstein Castle and Dachau concentration military camp. Don't forget the Olympic Stadium! hi, good light of day trips? you have the alps inside ca. 2 hrs, the lakes, resembling starnberg lake inwardly 30 minutes (king ludwig), augsburg within 45 mins (great historic inner city), regensburg inwardly 2 hrs, oldest stone bridge in europe except in the world, plenty to do within munich itself, cultural as well as sightseeing, if you ever sober up from the octoberfest, lol
Take the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It's an without doubt stunning town in the middle of the Alps, and is intensely much the quintessential Bavarian village. There is a ton of righteous food to be had in attendance, and historical sights and quaint buildings galore. I delight in Landsburg. So much to do in Munich you might not enjoy time to do day trips out into the country. Cheers.
hofbrau haus, the deustches museum, shloss neuschwanstein which is 50 miles south of munich. any hotel u stay contained by will have brochures, and the english bier garten, devout food, great beer. marion platz Lots! Dachau & Nymphenberg Palace are right there. Just acquire on the local train and go out to a rural community and stroll around. The Garmisch region has lots to do (Zugspitz, etc).

See if you can find the book, "Day Trips for Germany." It have a whole bit dedicated to Munchen.
