Are the relations of France friendly towards American tourists?
Answers: In my experience, yes. But of course this could depend on where on earth in France you are traveling, and how friendly you are towards the residents.
You can merely expect to be treated as nicely as you treat other nation! So remember that you are a guest in their country, and you should be OK.
I found that if I attempted to speak my VERY broken French, those were much more of a mind to use their (often fluent) English. A good place to start is to know that within France, when you enter a shop, it is customary to greet the shop owner with a greeting. A 'Bonjour Madame!' will jump a long way, lately make sure you right to be heard hello, and address the person by a Mrs, Miss or Mr, depending on which is appropriate!

We welcomed some relatives, lodged them took them everywhere and even salaried for the restaurants and everything and they kept complaining about the prices ! One guy kept dictum he could have better deal with the internet... But obviously, i am not generalizing

There are seriously of people chitchat English in big cities.
Just beware of Parisians though, they're rude, even to fellow French folks coming from "la province". That's just their spirit. They're very stressed and I guess that might be why they're rude.
Just try and impart some "bonjour", "s'il vous pla^it" and "merci" and I'm positive you'll have a great time :)

We know how to create a difference between American tourist and GWB visiting lol... but from recent poles I read this is also presently true for 3/4 of the US...
Rumsfeld should better not retire French Riviera ... after his comments about mature Europe, he may not find a warm hospitality.

ably im sorry to say this but most family are just sick and tired of americans if you're the rude, loud, naive type of yank.
but contained by general, french relatives can appear rude but it can be unintentional. for example, when you stir into a shop, they customary phrase used by the shopkeeper is Qu'est-que vous desirez?" which translated LITERALLY into English is "what do you want?" which can sound rude to anglophone ears, and if a frenchie have learned english but attempts too much literal tanslations (as we regularly do when learning a language) next they can appear rude. also, it only take a little shot to learn some chief francais, and a little french can stir a long way, even if plentifully of les francais can speak fluent or good english. if you come to their country, respect their law, culture and language and you will be fine.
In my experience yes. i visit France for the first time 3 years ago when i was 22. As long as you variety an effort to be respectful and correct I think you should enjoy no problem.
I was a lil worried in the region of that too b/c i had hear about desperate attitudes towards americans in France. I found nought like that while I be there...
I reckon if you try to at least speak a lil french you will attain a warmer greeting from ethnic group and really most people (especially youthful people) there know english...if you build an effort they will sustain you with directions, etc. Just be considerate and try to revise basic things within french...they will appreciate it and be more likely to budge out of their way to lend a hand you enjoy your touring experience.

What be shocking to me was that fellow Americans be the ones who were totally rude to me. (the don't reach a deal to me because you're ruining my European experience attitude). I think you take what you give.
I hold spoken to friends who traveled to France and they said the French were not even nice to respectively other. But I imagine it is resembling any other place, there are friendly nation and there are rude associates. Take money and a big smile.
I always try to serve tourists of best than I can... yet, my English is far from person perfect. as it have been said previously, greeting is more cordial when tourists try to adjust to the country that they visit... a simple " bonjour" (hello) , "s'il vous plais" (please) or "merci" (thank you) is all right ... and very appreciated
