Well, I am Brazilian and I own a friend in USA. I usually convey letters. Brazil to USA labour by US Mail - 1 month!
USA to Brazil - 12 days /20 days (Not sure). I saw the date she sent.
It really takes profoundly of time!! Try wait 1 month or 2 months if he doesn't reply you they lost it.
When I lived within Brasil, letters from the USA would mostly take around 2 weeks to be received. There were a couple of times when I would receive it surrounded by 7 days - apparently miracles do happen. And next there be a couple times it took 3 weeks. One letter even took 6 weeks (having be passed in the e-mail system by a couple of others)
Packages usually took longer - average of about 3 weeks.
Hopefully at hand is no money or other funds in the note as that may not even be received - a friend of mine had a couple of packages go missing that have checks.
see link for more info.
