When did Malaya become Malaysia...and why?



Answers:    Malaya did not become Malaysia. In the beginning, Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and afterwards North Borneo decided to fix together hands within co-opertation to form a new country and approved to call her "Malaysia". The opinion is to form a country where every one is equal, so that the those can live and work happily together and savour the country's wealth. It be to happen on 31st August, 1963, but someone cause some disruptions, so that great day did not happen until 16th September, 1963. However, the birth of Malaysia is officially reconized as on 31st August. 1957, when Malaya first become independent. The whole model of a Malaysians Malaysia was hijack by a few persons for their own inconsiderate benifits. It is now a ketuan Malayu Malaysia - or elit Malays Malaysia. So, even the lessor Malays are discriminated against.
In the context of Malaysian history, "Malaya" primarily refers to an elder name of present-day Peninsular Malaysia (and to an extent, Singapore), commonly used prior to the formation of Malaysia contained by 1963 and incorporated into several official name of the territory prior to 1963:

British Malaya, (18th century-1941) a loose collection of British controlled states surrounded by the Malay Peninsular, including Singapore, prior to the Japanese invasion of Southeast Asia in 1941;
the Malayan Union, (1946-1948) a post-war confederation and British crown colony consisting of adjectives states in British Malaya, excluding Singapore; and
the Federation of Malaya (1948-1963), the successor of the Malayan Union, excluding Singapore.
The Malay equivalent could refer any to both British Malaya or the Federation of Malaya as Tanah Melayu (translated as "Malay Ground" or "Malay Land").
it was still call the "Tanah Melayu" aka "Malay Soil" when it went lower than both Japanese and British occupation. Even after the Malay peninsular has achieve independence contained by 1957, it continued to use the name. When Peninsular, Sabah, Sarawak and immediately Singapore merged to form a federation it adopted the label Malaysia and has be using it since. even after singapore withdrew from the federation surrounded by 1965.
Federation of Malaya became Malaysia since16 Sept 1963 when Sabah, Sarawak & Singapore attached the Federation (of course, Singapore left Malaysia on 9 August 1965).The purpose at that time be to contain the influence of communism as well as unify former British territories into one entity.
"Malay" added near another word "Asia" became Malaysia hahahahhah bacause Malaysia is contained by the region of Asia.
