I don´t know exactly how many vineyards are here in Argentina, but there are really good wines speacially in the Cuyo region ( the States of Mendoza specially and San Juan)
We have really excellent Malbec which is our premium varietal.Varietals produced in Argentina include Malbec, Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin, Chardonnay, Viognier, Semillon, Syrah, Merlot, Tannat and Cabernet among others.

We really like the Malbec from the Vineyard- Marcus. A majority of what are considered the top vineyards in Argentina unfortunately do not produce enough grapes to be exported out of Argentina so you will have a hard time finding these in the states.

If you happen to be going to Argentina; there is a nice wine store/ wine bar in the Recova area of Buenos Aires. The downstairs is a wine bar with cafe while the upstairs is a wine store with all Argentine wines. The staff is quite knowledgeable.
There are several other wine stores around town but we find this one to be a nice cafe as well.
I had a Crios Cabernet a few weeks ago. My friend loved it, but I'm not quite as enthusiastic as he was. It was really dry like the Montes Alpha but not as rich.
more vineyards than you would ever need. regardless, the malbec is argentinas best wine. i suggest norton malbec!!
I tried great Malbec and Torrentes in Cafayate, near Salta in the north.

I also tried the most amazing wine ice-cream there. Never had I thought the two would go so well together. Incredible.
I've tasted Lo Tengo Malbec. It turns out quite good. It takes knowing the country you're in to tell you who sells and deals in it, but look for the lenticular label showing a couple dancing tango on cobblestone. The following link leads you to a connoisseur's commentary.
