You have to remeber that Argentina is not an old country (if your are coming from Europe you'll notice that.)
If you look for prehistorical ruins, you can find "La cueva de las manos" in the province of Santa Cruz.
Pre-Hispanic ruins can be found in Mendoza (there are some Inca ruins) en the north-western region. For colonial history you have the cities of Cordoba, Tucuman, and Buenos Aires.
You have some ruins of missions at the north-east in Misiones province (near the IguazĂș Falls.)
If you look for paleonthology, you have several museums in many cities, by far the best is the Natural Science Museum at La Plata (only 1 hour from Buenos Aires). At the Patagonia you have a petrified forest that is one of the 2 or 3 of its kind in the world.
