The original Plaza de Mayo is in Buenos Aires. It's a rectangular square surrounded by the most important administrative buildings: "Casa Rosada" (literally Pink House, it's our version of the White House ;-) ), the Central Bank of Argentina, the Ministry of Economy, the old Cabildo (municipal administrative building from colonial times), the Cathedral, and other public buildings.
There's a small white obelisk (not THE Obelisk which is elsewhere) to commemorate the "Revolución de Mayo" (May Revolution), that is, our independence. The Madres de Plaza de Mayo meet around it; in fact, this square has been the traditional meeting point for all kinds of manifestations.
