Are flint and steel fire starters allowed on an airplane?
are flint and steel fire starters allowed on an airplane?
Answers: I don't think you'd enjoy a problem. Wrap each seperatly (such as within a pair of socks) so they can't rub together and you should be fine. I outstandingly doubt that a TSA screener would know what flint looks like except a rock.
No...
Anything that can produce a flame is not allowed...
"Anything that can produce a flame is barred..."
This is false. For flights within the US, the TSA allows people to carry dull disposable lighters in their carryon luggage, and reliable lighters may also be allowed in checked luggage as very well. (The TSA even allows a passenger to carry one book of safekeeping matches within carry-on luggage, but not in checked luggage.)
That have been said, though, the TSA's website does not specifically mention these items -- you;'d be best contacting them directly to see whether they'd be allowed. (Given the limitations that exist, though, I'd bet that the answer is no.)
